Another Skirt

I knitted another skirt since I really like my first one.

The design is easy and super adaptable to any size; everything is knitted in the round, no sewing involved.

Materials:

YARN: 4 x 100 gr skeins of our Cotton/Tencel yarn in color MIDNIGHT.

NEEDLE: 3.25 mm

SIZE: M+ (pants size 12-14)

NOTIONS: Stitch markers, elastic for the top

Instructions:

Cast on 300 stitches (a number divisible by 4 and 6) and knit in the round for 2 inches. Purl one round, then continue knitting until you have 4 inches overall. Fold over the first 2 inches to create a tunnel for the elastic. Purling that one round will create a nice edge at the top. You can create the tunnel by folding the piece and knitting it together.

Once the tunnel is finished, set a marker every 50 stitches to create 6 equal sections and start knitting in pattern:

First Row: [(knit 4, purl 4) repeat 6x; purl 2] === repeat [ ] 6 times

Second row: knit all stitches as they appear

Third Row: Within each of the 6 sections, move every stitch one over to the left =

[(purl 1, knit 4, purl 3) repeat 6x; purl 2] === repeat [ ] 6 times

Fourth Row: knit all stitches as they appear

Fifth Row: Within each of the 6 sections, move every stitch one over to the left =

[(purl 2, knit 4, purl 2) repeat 6x; purl 2] === repeat [ ] 6 times

Sixth Row: knit all stitches as they appear

Continue this way until you have about 8 inches measured from the top (including the waist band).

Now the increases start:

[(knit 4, purl 4) repeat 6x; purl 1, increase 1, purl 1] === repeat [ ] 6 times

Increase using your preferred method; it doesn’t matter which way as long as you are consistent.

Next row: knit all stitches as they appear.

Continue knitting in pattern as established (alternating knit 4, purl 4, and moving every stitch one over to the left every second row) while at the same time increasing every 8th row.

The 6 panels remain at the same width/stitch count; the increases occur in the purl section in between the panels. Every increase row adds 6 stitches. After a few increase rows, you will see wedges appear. This adds a nice drape to the skirt and looks good, too.

Continue knitting and increasing until you reach your desired length or run out of yarn.

My skirt’s final length is 24.5 inches.

Bind off in pattern —- and enjoy!
